     Help!!! Poor People Wedding

My fiance and I don't have a ton of money. I wanted to go to a judge for us to get married, but he wants a 60 guest wedding. How do I do that as cheaply as possible?

Dear Poor People Wedding,

I didn't want to spend much either, but wanted my special people around me. We rented the courtyard and one room of the Veteran's Center of our town. It was very inexpensive and quaint. Check with your parks and recreation district to find out if they have rooms to rent for events such as this. There is always the park idea also. You could even host a picnic afterward :)

Best wishes,

You can get married in front of the judge and have the reception later, the following week or whenever. OR If you or a friend belong to a local church, you could utilize the church for the wedding and one of their rooms for a small reception. That would save time as well as expense. Consider serving a "cold" buffet (which can be inexpensively prepared in advance), with veggie salads, anti pasta, chicken salad, cheeses, etc. Don't go wild on the cake, as cakes can cost from $3 to $30 a slice. Provide basic beverages and perhaps wine.

Ask some of your friends if they like to take pictures and if they have a good camera. If so, ask if they would kindly take pictures of the wedding and reception or leave disposable wedding cameras on the tables for your guests to take lots of candid shots!

Regarding music for the reception, consider hiring a local high school DJ who has the equipment and sound, and either choose your own music to play or provide CDs for the DJ to use.

Regarding decorations, choose a venue that is inexpensive and already looks nice, so you don't have to spend as much for the decorations. Use decorations and table center pieces that you can use again in your own home. If you like candles, use those as centerpieces. Next time the electricity goes out, at least you'll have plenty of those!

With proper planning and a little help from friends, you and your future husband will enjoy a night to remember, at a budget you can afford, and still have your cake and eat it too!
