Is it okay to serve only cake and punch at a reception immediately following a 6:00 PM wedding at the same location?

This would be a time when your guests would be expecting a meal. It would be best if you moved the wedding to around 2 or 3 PM.

I completely agree. When we invite guests, we are then hosts. So, we always have to consider what is best for them.
