I am having a little dilemna..... I am getting married in Las Vegas and after the ceremony I want to have a reception dinner for my guests. We have invited 14 immediate family members. While looking at all the restaurant reception dinners and package deals from the chapels, most of them state you need a minimum of 20 or more guests at the reception. If you do not have that amount of guests, you have to pay per person and its an exorbitant amount of money for what you really get. We want to have the reception in a nice restaurant and have a sit down meal, but we cant afford to have our guests choose whatever they want on the menu., for example someone ordering a $100.00 meal. We would like to have something set up where they can choose 3 entrees and have a beverage. What should I do in this case? Does anyone know of any places that would be good to go to that cater to very small groups? Does it seem cheap of me to offer only 3 meal selections? How do we handle people ordering beverages? example: {someone wanting 3 cocktails?)

Dear Reception Dilemma,
One option would be to make the reservation for the 20 guests even though you have only 14 if it is cheaper. You would be paying for the 20 though.
It isn't cheap of you to only have three choices. It really is considerate to offer more than one choice.
It is expected that all beverages would be paid by you. It isn't appropriate to limit beverages in a restaurant setting. So, if this is an issue, it may be better to find a reception venue and host this yourself.
I hope someone else can assist you with finding a good caterer.

Dear Kari:
There are hundreds of restaurants in Las Vegas that would be happy to work out arrangements with you that will fit your budget. You might want to start with the restaurants that are in the hotel you will be staying in. Some suggestions are Buca di Beppo which serves family style Italian, Holfbrau Haus, Maggiano's Little Italy, Lowry's Prime Rib, Smith & Wollenskys, Flemings Prime Steak house just to name a few. Just call and tell them what you are looking for; I'm confident you will find someone who can work with you and create a special reception that all will enjoy! One other suggestion is that some of the hotel buffets have private rooms. Debra of Bridal Spectacular http://www.bridalspectacular.com

Having been to Las Vegas and partaking of all the wonderful buffets, as my waist can attest, have you considered checking with some of the hotels to see if they will provide a private room, yet give access to their delicious buffet?
With only 14 immediate family members, you might consider contacting some of the nicer restaurants for a private room and allow your guests to order off the menu. Many restaurants provide a "limited menu" for such occasions. Get with the manager and let them know your expectations and budget.
