We set the budget for the wedding at $10,000 but then I found a beautiful site that cost $4,000. We decided to go ahead and get it because it's perfect (and offers lodging for the guests, too) but now it looks like we're going to have to pay about $2-3000 more than what we've saved. Very poor planning on my part, but now I'm not sure what to do. I really don't want to put stuff on credit cards, but I don't know any other options. I think it wouldn't take us too long to pay off the credit card, 6 months at the most, but it just seems like a bad idea. Are there other options with a lower interest rate?
Thanks for your help, this site is really great for answering my questions - I appreciate it a lot. ~ Monica

If you own a home you could apply for a low interest home equity loan. Other than that, have you considered asking any family members to loan you the money? Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

M_brucker,
I feel your pain! I'm in a similar situation. We had initially budgeted 4K for the wedding. I know, I know, it would've had to be pretty primative. But we both are recovering students (read: heavy loan payments) and we just wanted a bare bones celebration. Of course we find a place with an unbelievable offering: they provide the cake, alcohol, dinner, waiter service and parking (and the centerpieces). That adds up to 3K, give or take. Try as I might, I can't picture getting flowers, a deejay, favors and a photographer on a grand. The solution for us? We got a credit card with a low APR and will pay for any over spill ($$) with that. I hated to do it, but I'm trying to be as frugal with the other details as I can. Good luck to you, on whatever you decide!

Mallyn22, I think that's what I've decided on too. A low APR credit card seems like the least hassle and hopefully it won't take too long to pay off, so I won't be paying too much interest. Good deal with that reception place, by the way, that sounds awesome. Thanks for your help! ~ Monica
