Serving heavy appetizers for 7 PM wedding?

Please help. I'm planning a casual back yard wedding. The only thing formal about our wedding is my dress. My fiance and I are on a budget because we just bought a house. We are planning on aroung 150 people and catering looks like it will cost around $3500 (not in out budget). Would it be okay to have heavy appetizers for a 7pm wedding? We are having dancing and an open bar.

Dear Boarderchic,

The option of heavy hors d' oeuvres is okay for your food but you'd do well to check out the pricing. It can sometimes be as much or more than a meal. Another option could be pasta and salad station with a carving board for ham, turkey, etc.
