We have a budget of 1500.00. We are looking to buy a home and dont want to spend more than we have to. I think it is possible but I'm starting to panic. First off we found a wonderful place to have the ceremony. We are having only 20 guests. The place we found offers a gazebo ceremony, minister, wedding coordinator, music, wedding pic on website, wedding announcement in local paper, photos w/negatives and a video for 680.00. So I dont think we can do better than that. My main concern is the reception. We found the location. Our local community center rents for $50 comes with tables and chairs. The reception is at 4:00. What kind of food do we have to serve? We were thinking party platters from a local grocery store. Is that ok? We're all simple people and I dont think we'd be comfortable with something really extravagant, plus the budget is down to 770 and we still have to get flowers and decor for reception and the cake also.....any suggestions? I've been looking at silk flowers and believe I'm going to take that route. Any suggestions for reception menu would be appreciated...thank you! Oh and my parents are buying my dress so I don't have to worry about that expense! Thanks again!

Dear On a Budget,
Bravo for having excellent priorities. Because your reception is during a time when people will expect to eat, it is best to offer something that resembles a meal. This could just be cold cuts, cheeses and rolls. So, this could be within your budget.
For the tables... you could get very simple small vases from a dollar store or something similar. Clear marbles are inexpensive. Then you could place one pretty flower in each with a bunch of babies breath (very inexpensive). These could be given away at the end of the evening.

Silk flowers are great, as you can keep and use in your new home.
To save even more money, you could purchase the food items and your family could prepare the day before (or freeze ahead of time). The trays could then be arranged the morning of the reception.
Food safety wise, consider staying away from items that contain mayo and eggs (i.e. potato salad, deviled eggs, etc.). A good selection of cold cuts and various cheeses, with lots of fresh cut veggies, such as carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes... don't forget olives, pickles, and peppers. By purchasing in bulk at Sam's Club you'll save more than at the grocery.

Sam's Club and Costco have really good bakeries so try their cakes. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
