I am planning a wedding reception in September. There will be about 60 guests and so far my budget planning is going very well. The reception is outdoors, under a tent, and I have decided to use different china on each table. Through yard sales and thrift stores I have gotten 5 different but complete sets of fine china all for under ten dollars a set. I have used ebay and gotten a great deal on linen napkins and silverware.
However, I need some guidance on the menu. I am going to approach the local vocational school and am thinking of doing a family style sit down dinner. I will have about 8 tables of 8 and am thinking for doing a ham dinner at each table. Does this sound reasonable? I have a good recipe using a presliced precooked spiral ham, plus potatoes, veggies and a salad. I thought I could have each student waiter assigned to a table.
Any suggestions on how to make this idea work and be affordable would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dawn

Chicken will be a safer choice than ham. Also, if you are going to go with the local vocational school for your wait staff needs, be conscious of the fact that they are students not professionals and may not have ever worked at a wedding. As a consequence, if something goes wrong, he/she/they may not know how to handle the issue. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings

My original thought on the menu was chicken, something simple and grilled with a potato and grilled veggies.
As for the vocational students, they will be accopanied by an instructor who is also a friend of the family. They have actually worked a lot of functions because the school runs a restaurant and caters all the school functions. I might still go the regular buffet route, but I will probably still explore the sit down at the table style dinner.
