     Wedding plan nightmare

Frown Help!

Any suggestions gratefully received! My fiancé and I are on a really really tight budget. We are getting married on March 4th 2006.

We have already saved a tonne of money by getting dress in sale, cousin making veil and bridesmaids dresses, her uncle making cake, a friend to do decorating and hair and make up, local lady who grows own flowers we do the arranging, tiara off Ebay, wedding car fiancé's parents one!!

just worrying about reception....

the wedding is at 2pm...is it ok to have just the wedding guests for a dinner at one venue, then have the reception at another?? we are thinking about just hiring a hall and providing the food ourselves...is this realistic??? i have no idea where to go from here, and my fiancé and I are clashing about this as well as money issues and should we have the wedding in the UK or not (he wants to go abroad and do it just me and him but I want friends and family - not a big wedding but i know that my parents and nan/grandad wouldn't travel by air).

please help!

Dear Beth:

It sounds like you are putting the cart before the horse with your wedding planning. You've got all these money saving ideas but you and your groom haven't settled on where the wedding is going to take place. Let's take care of first things first. Settle on the general location of your wedding. It's fruitless to make all these other arrangements until you do.

Should the two of you opt to have the wedding where you live, then focus on having the reception/dinner at one venue. Asking your guests to hop around as you suggest is not realistic nor considerate. Not to mention the problems you are going to have logistically. When selecting a site, secure one that will allow you to bring in your own catering. But I strongly recommend against you and/or your family trying to provide the food.

Leave the cooking/serving/cleaning to professionals, or at least people who are not going to be part of the wedding in any capacity and are reliable. This includes the cake, unless the uncle is a professional baker. I've seen many weddings almost ruined and relationships broken because of family/friends offering to do something now only to back out later.

Best wishes,
