Need Advice Please, Formal wedding but low budget.

I do not want the wedding to look cheap but I do want modest and consertive and traditional. Are there any tips someone may give me please that may help?

Thanks so much.

Can you be more specific about what you're looking for? Favors, decorations, invitations, attire, etc???

Hi Bridetobe,

I am getting married in 3 and half months and can certainly understand where you are coming from.

My budget for my wedding is modest as my fiancee and I are paying for everything! I hope my tips will be able to help you:

Centerpieces -- Footed bowl w/ floating candles will add beautiful light during your dinner and dancing. Buy 1 bowl per table and 3 candles per bowl. My budget was $20.00 per centerpiece which the candles were the expensive part but wanted light ot last at least 8 hours, so to me that is important.

Invitations -- Do them on your own! There are so many packages of card stock that you can customize yourself. Print them on your computer using borders and different prints, add color if you wish and your font choice and volia a personal beautiful invitation! Where to get wording ideas? Get some of those free invitation catalogues where you are not obligated to buy (got mine from the internet) and you can get more ideas to help you along! So far, we have spent less than $75.00 including buying extra packs to work out any mistakes!

Attire -- Buy off the rack and this includes you! Do some research and you will be able to find salons that do this and save lots of money in the process! For accessories including shoes, check out department store sales, warehouses, craft shows, flea markets, etc... Remember that if you fall in love with something for you or your bridal party... Buy It but make sure it is within your budget. Lastly, do your shopping on own or with your maid of honour. Add other people or more people and there can be opinions that can frustrate you which is not you want to feel.

There are many other things I can share but am unsure where your question is directed to. I hope I was some help but if you have other queries, let me know and I can try to help where I can.

The most crucial advice I can give to any bride to be is to priortize what is important to you and spend accordingly. Do not scumb to pressure or advertising as they will not be paying your bills in the end!

Happy Planning!

I think most of us bride to be's can relate to your situation. I am in college trying to pay for that plus my fiance and i are paying for the entire wedding on our own. Here are some suggestions.

Invitations: I bought a pack of white cardstock (about $4 at walmart or target). I got on Microsoft Word and divided my page into 4 parts. I created a simple one layer invitation with all the info on the front (like dates, times, etc) Then you can always write directions or whatever on the back. Use pretty or fun fonts, use different colors or whatever. Then buy card envelopes at walmart (60 for $3.27 in the stationery dept.). You can buy pastel colors so that adds some character to the invitations. All in all you'll spend maybe $15 plus ink and postage. Trust me...much simpler and people will admire your "creativity".

Dresses/Attire: check local bridal shops for rentals. I didn't even think about that and had $135 bridesmaid dresses picked out and had already BOUGHT my wedding dress for about $500 when i stopped in at a bridal shop to look around. Now we are renting bridesmaid gowns for $50 and going barefooted (if bare feet doesn't fit the occasion, wear flip flops...glue rhinestones on them if needed!)

Buy A little at a time: it may sound pointless, but if you are having a reception too then everytime you go to town buy one thing. Buy paper plates one trip, buy napkins the next trip, buy a cake topper the next trip. That will help in the end so that you don't have to pay for everything in one lump sum.

Finally, check out oriental trading's online website.... they have some good wedding products pretty cheap.
