My boyfriend and I recently got engaged. We are planning a two year engagement so that we have time to save money and enjoy the experience. I want to have between 65 and 75 people attend and am hoping to only spend around 6,000 to 7,000 dollars. I want it to be formal and beautiful but am willing to find ways to save too. Is it possible??
It is possible, but you will have to be flexible and creative. The biggest challenge you will have with your budget is trying to find a site. My recommendation is avoid the hotel ballrooms, fancy club houses, etc. You simply don't have a large enough budget for it and they won't allow you to bring in your own caterer. Scout out historic mansions. They will usually let you bring in your own food and that could be a big savings. Or, look at some banquet halls. Some allow you to bring in your own caterer. Others offer packages at very affordable rates. Once you find a place that can accommodate both your ceremony and reception, everything will fall into place. My best friend is having a gorgeous wedding for about $7000.00 and they are planning for 300 people. So yes, it is possible, you just have to know where to cut corners.
Really? Please tell us how she's making it happen. I'm planning my 150-guest wedding with $5,500 and lots of creativity. I'm overwhelmed and disheartened.
On the bright side, I've found some amazing spots now that we've switched to non-peak timing options (Friday night or Saturday morning/mid-day). But even then, I am left with a $5,500 reception and nothing for a dress, photographer, flowers, or save-the-date announcements.
I think it's possible, but I could use a little advice on where to look. I have been reading a great book 'Wedding Chic' is the title, I think. It is helpful! I also read another about having low cost weddings, but it had some unreal budgets (who can get a cake for $150?). I would love to read about some real life budget-driven weddings that were successful.
