I need to know if this sounds good. I want to get married in a friends backyard on a lake in June. I want the reception there too. If I wanted to do finger food stuff, what time should I start everything? Do I have a wedding cake too? I don't want to rent a dance floor- so what kind of music should I have? Is clear plastic plates and other plastic tableware appropriate? We only want to spend around $6000.00.

Regarding times to start, make sure you provide enough time for your photographer to take the necessary photos after the wedding. Try and coordinate things so you're guests are kept entertained while the photos are being taken (a good hour or two).
Are you planning on having a DJ or live music at your event? When having it outside, it's important to have good sound equipment as there isn't much to help contain the sound (i.e. no ceiling, walls, etc.) and the sound tends to get lost. If you're considering any type of dancing, at least hiring a DJ with good sound equipment will ensure a fun time for all and a more memorable event. A DJ is very useful, and often provides wireless microphone which comes in handy for making toasts, announcements, etc., and would be helpful in keeping the crowd occupied while your photography is being taken.
If you don't plan on having any dancing, then don't worry. But if you do, keep in mind that dancing on uneven ground is difficult at best, if not dangerous. Some of your guests might consider "forget the heels" and try the barefoot approach, so it will be important to make sure the area is clear of sharp rocks, broken glass, pine needles, ANTS, etc!
Compare the pricing of renting a small snap together dance floor and the cost of buying a couple pieces of half inch thick plywood, eight or twelve 2x4s, and sheetrock screws. Two pieces of plywood would give you an 8x16 dance floor. After building, spray paint black. Later, you can easily take out the screws with a drill.
