Catholic bride and non-catholic groom married without a priest?

My fiance and I were planning an outdoor ceremony in September at our reception site with his cousin (a pastor) as officiant. When my father's mother found out she almost passed out! She (along with my father and two sisters) is Catholic. My fiance is not. She will not come to the wedding unless there is at least a priest somewhat involved. I know that many churches won't marry non-Catholics and many I spoke with won't marry non-members. (We live in OH but are getting married in PA.) My fiance and I are very open to ideas about how to please everyone but I need a little help with my options. Can you suggest some ways to have a priest incorporated into the ceremony?

You've got a real problem, there! You won't be able to please everyone no matter what you do.

Usually a Catholic priest will not perform an outdoor wedding unless it's at a shrine or sacred place, like a church grotto. You can ask around, but that seems to be the concensus of opinion.

You don't mention whether you are Catholic or not. If you are not Catholic, there is no reason for a priest to be part of the ceremony. If you are Catholic, you can try contacting your local priest to see if he has any other options you can try.

Congratulations on finding love. We also had relatives who would not attend our wedding because it was not in a Catholic church, but they have since come to accept our interchurch marriage and we have good rapport with them. Just takes time and prayer!
