Hi there, I have searched, I really have, and I can't seem to find a solid answer. I've read here, multiple times, that it is not necessary to have bridal attendants for a vow renewal. Part of the reason my husband and I have chosen to do a vow renewal is because our friends have talked us into it after feeling slighted for not even being invitedto our wedding 10 years ago. I have four deeply close friends who want very much to be standing up there with me. So is it poor taste to have them? I don't want to make a fool of myself, or offend any more traditional friends or family members who will be invited. Help?

Re: [amymarin] Attendants for a vow renewal

Dear Amy,
The 'why' is that attendants are essentially witnesses for legal reasons. We don't need them for a vow renewal. But, for etiquette reasons we don't use them because it would create a wedding-like feel. We shouldn't create an event that resembles a wedding. That would look a bit silly for an anniversary event. So, it is best to just have a anniversary party. They missed the wedding and there is no way to create one for them.
