Can I wear black for vow renewal?

We are having our marriage convalidated by the Catholic church, and have invited family and close friends to the 'blessing of the marriage.' (I have read and applied the advice you have available on such an event - Thanks!)

In regards to what I should wear, I have found that #1 it's okay to wear white; #2 it's okay to wear the original wedding dress; #3 it's not okay to wear a veil, and it may or may not be okay to have a dress with a train; #4 there are no other rules of etiquette on this subject.

I am very pregnant and I have a great dress that fits! I wore it once to an opera performance. It is formal, it is flattering, and it is solid black.

Can I wear black? Are my inlaws going to think I'm morbid?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Dear Does Not Want to be Morbid,

There really is no rule for this. Your dress should depict the formality of your event. So if your ceremony is formal the formality of your dress would be fine.

Although black is fine for weddings, I'm not sure how your family or clergy will feel. I'm definitely fine with it, but I'm not family. So, it would probably be best to check in with your family and your priest and find out how they feel about it.

It really is fine though as long as it is not too formal.

Best wishes,
