Gifts for wedding vow renewal announcement

Are you supposed to send a gift when you receive an announcement of renewal of wedding vows? We did not receive an invitation to the ceremony, nor did we know it was being done.

Dear Just Informed,

I've never heard of anyone sending announcements of their vow renewal. It is like sending out cards informing everyone about a wedding anniversary. But, that is neither here, nor there. A vow renewal is not necessarily a gift giving situation, so no gift is necessary. In fact, even a wedding announcement doesn't obligate the receiver to give.

Best wishes,
