Is it ok to renew vows after just a year or so of marriage?

Originally my husband and I had a huge wedding planned but unfortunately his military orders made him leave a day before our wonderful ceremony was suppose to take place so we went the JP. Some of our family was present but his mom couldn't be there due to work because of the short notice. We want to have the wedding that we never had and a reception to be with all of our friends. Is this ok? We want to have some military touches just like our first wedding was suppose to have. We have two wonderful children who are 2 and 3 mos. My husband won't we back from Iraq until June or July hopefully. I just need to know how we would go about this and what is appropriate to have or do since we really didn't have a first wedding except at the jp office. Any advice would be great. Thank you!
