Leaving kids and family out of vow renewal

We have been rebuilding our marriage of 9 years after my husband's 6 month emotional long-distance affair ended. He wants us to renew our vows, which I think is a great idea. I would like it to be a simple, but meaningful ceremony, with just our minister and one couple that we are close too. Is it okay to leave out the kids and other family?

Dear Renewing,

Yes, this is fine and in very good taste. These should be small affairs. Please read more about vow renewal etiquette.

Best wishes,
