     Marriage/Vow Renewal

Hello,

I looked thru the treads but did not find another posting that would help me. So I appoligize if the question has been answered. I would love to have a destination wedding, but am having second thoughts. I am afraid that I will run into problems and the wedding will not be recognized in Canada, and that my marriage certificate will be in another language. I am thinking of having a ceremony here in Canada with just the parents and then renewing our vows at the destination we choose. The problem is we are inviting 30 guests to come to our destination for the wedding and they are spending alot of money to join us for our special day. What do I tell them? Is this a bad idea?

Thank you,

Dear Jeanie,

Yes, this would not be a good idea. It would be lying to your guests. Just contact those you need to contact to find out about the legality of the wedding. If you find out it isn't legal in Canada, you could sign legal papers there after your wedding. You don't have to have a second ceremony.

Best wishes,
