     Renewing Vows

My husband and I were very young (but legal!) when we got married. We had a quickie wedding in New York City clerks office (My ceremony was all of 30 seconds!). There were no announcements. No reception. No family present (my co-worker was my witness) Nothing. Honestly, I highly doubt that most of our family even knows that we are legally married. Now I want the fairytale wedding that every little girl dreams of.....and my husband says I deserve it (for putting up with him this long! LOL). I want to have a real wedding. The church, the dress, attendants.....the whole shebang! However, in reading some of the posts, it seems that it would be bad etiquette to have a "real wedding". If it is, then what do you suggest....

Hello Hilda:

You and your husband should celebrate your successful marriage! However, since you are already married your ceremony would be called a vow renewal or blessing of your marriage. You can have a beautiful vow renewal ceremony and reception to follow with most of the bells and whistles that come along with a typical wedding.

You can read more on this subject at the following 2 pages:

Congratulations!
