My husband and I are going to renew our wedding vows next Oct. on our 10th wedding anniversary.
We eloped the first time around, for two reasons. It was just becoming a headache with all the involvment from my family and his when we started to plan the original wedding. Also, we wanted to earn our wedding. With divorce rates so high, it seemed silly to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding that may or may not last..
Well so far so good, so we have started planning the wedding. The problem is that what I want is a real wedding. I want the big beautiful dress, and him in a tux. I want my dad to walk me down the aisle and the party afterwards. However people are telling me thats not right. Its supposed to be simple, and basic, and I cant wear the big dress, (and God forbid I wear white) or anything that resembles that. Is that true? I dont want to break tradition, but I really do want my wedding... I dont believe in animal testing.. The animals get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
First things, first. You are already married, so unless you divorce your husband, you can't marry him again. However, you can renew your vows.
This is not the same as a wedding for many reasons. One, a wedding is a ceremony to marry two people and is considered a gift giving event. A vow renewal is a ceremony to either confirm your marriage by the church or to recommit to each other and is not considered a gift giving event.
When a vow renewal resembles a wedding, it could appear as if you just want to dress up as a princess for a day and receive gifts. So, it is often viewed negatively. Planning is crucial.
It appears as if your friends and family are trying to keep you from creating an event that will ultimately embarrass you and your family. They are good friends.
Your ceremony can include certain elements of a wedding. So, please read more about vow renewal etiquette. Plus, we have very many post exactly like this one where we have replied to wives about vow renewal etiquette. Please read the posts.
Your comment about animal testing and animals giving the wrong answer is puzzling. I'm sure it is supposed to be some sort of analogy.
