     Vow renewal

My husband and I plan on renewing our vows on our 5 year wedding anniversary. We got married via justice of the peace when I was 18 and he was 20 after he joined the military. Would it be appropriate to have a 2nd wedding if we have never lived together? We haven’t moved in as of yet because I chose to continue going to school in my state while he was based else where. Thank you very much for your advice.

The issue is that you are legally married so you wouldn't be able to be married again without divorcing.

However, if you wanted to have a religious ceremony you could have a blessing of your marriage. Discuss this option with your clergy person since the church might have some questions about whether your marriage was ever consummated and their opinion of the validity of the marriage.

You can, without doubt, renew your wedding vows and have a party to celebrate. Just be sure to consider proper vow renewal etiquette in order for your event to be viewed positively by your guests.
