     Vow renewal

Help!! I am so confused. My husband and I want to have a vow renewal ceremony since we were married at the courthouse. We had no witnesses nor did we have any pictures. The problem that I am having is that some people in the family are not that happy with us for wanting to do this. It makes me feel like we are doing something dumb for wanting to have the wedding that we never had. What should I do. Should I listen to them or just have the wedding that I always dreamed of? Please Help.Unsure

Dear Vow Renewal,

It is best to listen to your family. You are already married, so to have the 'wedding' you never had really is not logical. There are many types of wedding ceremonies and a courthouse ceremony is one of them.

Although a vow renewal can be held any time after a wedding, it is best received when it is appears to be what it is supposed to be--a renewal of vows or reaffirmation of your marriage. This is best done on a bench mark anniversary, because it is more of an anniversary party. It should never mirror a wedding. Please read more of our many posts concerning vow renewal etiquette and our article.

Best wishes,
