What to wear for 20 year marriage renewal

Hi,

My husband and I will be celebrating our 20 year marriage anniversary, we did not have a wedding 20 years ago, we were married in Denmark, I would like to renew my marriage to include family and friends. I would like to wear a gown, but not a traditional gown, the color I want is purple-ish/lavender, and and I want my husband and my 2 boys, to wear tails. My daughter will wear the same color as me, I want fancy, but not ultra formal, I know that for renewal of vows the already married woman should not wear a gown, but I don't want to wear a prom-like dress, so would a modified gown be acceptable, or even a modified bridesmaid dress?

Dear Salangj,

Involving your children is important as this shouldn't appear to be a wedding in any way. But, it definitely can be special. Please read our many posts concerning vow renewals and vow renewal etiquette.

Your dress should be special, but not something a bride could wear.

Best wishes,
