father walking daughter down aisle for vow renewal
Ok well my husband and I got married 4 years ago. We were in the middle of planning a wedding and canceled everything and went and got married at the court house. Well I regret not having a wedding. I know it is a choice we've made and we need to live with it but here's the story. My father has had cancer for 12 years and is not doing well. He has been very upset that I went and got married in a court house. My husband and I had talked about having a reception like an anniversary party later down the road anyways so we have decided to go ahead and renew our vows in front of our family and friends since we wish we would have the first time. Since this maybe the last year of my fathers life and I'm his baby girl out of 6 is it appropriate to have him walk me down the aisle, not give me away, but walk with me?

Dear Becca,
I sincerest sympathies for your father.
There really is no aisle for a vow renewal. If this were a church ceremony, a blessing of your vows, there may be. But, you still wouldn't need to be escorted. Sometimes when this is held in a church, the couple's children would walk with them. But, it seems as if you are still trying to create a wedding. It shouldn't appear to be one. Please read more about vow renewal etiquette.
