My husband & I did not have a formal wedding ceremony & now would like to renew our vows at our church, is it appropriate to have a maid of honor or best man?[email]

Unless you are duplicating the first wedding ceremony (which you are obviously not doing) it is not necessary to have witnesses or attendants.
