Will be renewing our vows and celebrating our 40th anniversary. Our original bridesmaid and best man will not be there. We would like to have 2 close friends take their place. I am aware that in the words attendant is changed to attendee, but what would a stand in for the best man be referred to in the order of service? We are also including the 2 people(cousins) that introduced us. We continue to have a close relationship with them and want them included. We are considering a reference to them in the order of service as "match maker to the couple." after each name. Is this acceptable?

Since this is not a wedding, and not a legal service, there is no need for attendants or witnesses.
If you wanted to acknowledge friends, you could mention them during the service, in a written program or possibly during a candle lighting service.
I'm not sure what you mean about the wording of attendants/attendee.
A vow renewal should never appear to be a wedding or include any of the traditional elemnts of one.

I agree. It really sounds as if you are planning a wedding-like event, which isn't viewed well. So, please read our many posts concerning vow renewals in order to plan an event that will appear proper.
