Asking Guests to 2nd Wedding to Pay for Trip Instead of Gifts
My situation. We both have established homes so we don't need anything as far as household items. We would like to take our merging families on a trip together. Is it appropriate to ask wedding guests to give money toward the trip instead of gifts?

Gifts should never be expected and, even if you were to be expecting gifts, it's not polite to tell guests what type of gift and how much to spend. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

Completely agree. It is viewed in very poor taste to expect your guests to treat you to a vacation. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
