Bridal Party and Witnesses for Second Wedding

This is a second marriage for both of us. I have two boys (14 and 11). We are getting married at a hotel in Hawaii. We were planning on having my oldest son walk me down the aisle and my younger son be the ring bearer. Both jobs they eagerly want to participate in. We also want to have the boys be part of a "Sand Ceremony" as we become a new family. My fiance and I are in our 40's, do we have to have a matron of honor or best man to act as witnesses? It seems like that would be alot of people standing up there at the archway and I would like to keep it just me, my fiance and the boys along with the minister. I also feel too old to have a bridesmaid. If my son walks me down the aisle, could he then stand by fiance as best man while my younger son holds the rings?

Very confused...need help! Thank you.

Dear Melissa,

You don't need attendants and anyone can sign as a witness (check the legality of age requirements). But, your 11 year old is way too old to be a ring bearer. Both of your sons could escort you or one could and the other could stand with your fiance. They both could stand with you if one is standing as best man. Or, they could both sit down (or stand) if they are escorting you. This is something you can customize.

Best wishes,
