Do you have to say yes if asked to be in a second wedding
A friend of mine is getting married for the second time and asked me to be in the wedding. The wedding, however, is out of town and I would have to buy plane tickets for my spouse and I, rent a car, get a hotel room, plus the gift and clothing expenses. It would cost close to $1000 and would really be a hardship on us financially. I already spent a good deal on my friend's first wedding and I don't want to hurt their feelings, but the money issue is a big source of contention with my spouse and I right now since we have other debt and expenses. Can I say no and just send a gift, or do I have to be in the wedding since I was asked?

If this is a good friend they are sure to understand your dilemma. Call and let them know that, while you are honored to be asked to be a member of the bridal party, you will have to decline due to financial concerns. Let your friend know you support them and that you wish them well. Maybe you could say that, if and when your financial situation gets better, you could come for a visit.
