Help... we are getting married in August and it is the second wedding for both of us. We each did the justice of the peace thing the first time. Now we are having a formal outdoor evening wedding. What kind of decor and food do you suggest? We have rented a tent so far and think twinkle lights will be pretty? Our colors are midnight blue, black and white.

Hi, Your color scheme sounds good. Some flowers to look into would be Delphinium in deep blue, Hydrangeas in dutch Blue, Agapanthus and perhaps Iris. For white you have tons of options of course.
One August look that might be fun would be to use deep blue delphinium, White spray asters and big bouyant sunflowers with black centers. If Sunflowers are too casual for you perhaps some white gerber daisies with black centers would fit the bill.
If you are looking for sophistication you just can't beat the dendrobium orchid. They are very elegant long white orchid sprays. A clear bowl of orchids with swirled beargrass in the water is simple, elegant and reasonable. Surrounded with votive candles you will also create great shadows and sparkle.
One thing I think can be very effective in tented weddings to turn on the wow factor is the use of great linens. There are places to rent colored, sheer and elegant tablecloths popping up allover. If the whole tablecloth seems like too much how about elegantly folded cobalt blue napkin treatments.
Icicle lights are a great way to go when decorating a tall tent. They are beautiful and a lot easier to hang than regular strands. Ballooning them with tulle or sheer fabric is amazing too. A bolt or two of inexpensive bridal illusion(tulle) can be well worth while if you like that effect. Be prepared to spend some time and a considerable amount of effort if you begin decorating the tent though. It is not something that you can expect to do the morning of the wedding. Allow time, enlist friends(or hire people) and bring the pizza and drinks. Don't take it on without the right attitude or you will stress out and that is a no no.
Food wise you have a million ways to go! The most important single factor for a tented wedding is hiring the best caterer you can find and afford. Ask friends and events professionals for recommendations. Your caterer will make or break the party so find one you really like and can communicate with. Experience is worth a lot here too. Timing is really important and is not perfected in the first year. Look for a company that has been doing this for a while. A good caterer will be your guide through your menu choices.
