Grooms second time around bridal shower

This is the grooms second marriage and the brides first marriage. The bride to be has asked if the grooms Mother if she or any other family or friends of the groom intended on giving her a shower? Is this proper etiquette for the bride to ask such a thing and is it expected that the grooms family or friends do such a thing?

Dear Is it Appropriate,

No, it is not proper. She can ask her friends or bridesmaids. But, this is an optional party and she should not be asking family.

Close family or people she doesn't know well should not be hosting this. It is viewed as self serving for family, especially mothers, to host.

It may be best for someone close to give her an etiquette book or to direct her here for etiquette advice. It appears as if she doesn't know proper etiquette and she could be very embarrassed when she finds out about her faux pas.

Best wishes,
