     Hyphenate or not...legalities?

I am getting remairried the end of April. When I got divorced I went back to my maiden name which I would like to keep because in my business I am known my it. But I also want to take his name. I understand that hyphenated names can cause problems when it comes to legal documents and the like with how things are filed etc. (Like is it under the first hyphenated name or second)

Anyway, I've read posts here and other forums about taking on my maiden name as my middle name, so going from Mary Jo Smith to Mary Smith Johnson. But do I 'lose' my real middle name then?

Any thoughts or suggestions? I dont want a name so long that I run off the paper every time I sign a check...LOL

I'm not really sure what you mean.

I don't know of any issues with hyphenated names.

I've heard of women having trouble such as filing taxes if the hyphen is not put in or medical offices filing their files under the second name in the hyphenated name not the first and things getting lost, etc...

I suppose there are risks of that happening with any name. I'm not really clear about what your questiin is though.
