     Re-marrying the same man.

The first time we got married was at the courthouse. We were divorced for 20 months but remained together for 18 of those months. We have 4 children together and would like to have a more formal ceremony and a reception. I am unsure how to go about it since we were already married but without the formal ceremony and the reception.

Dear Remarrying,

This would be a second wedding because you are divorced. But, since you are marrying the same man and most likely all of your guests know that you have been living as man and wife, you may want to temper any expectations for gifts. Guest may consider that you are just making this legal--again.

However, this is a wonderful event. You two realize that you are supposed to be together as a married couple. So, celebrate!

Create the type of event you want--formal is fine. If someone wishes to host a shower, accept. Register. Treat this as a wedding, because that is what it is. Have the reception both of you desire.

Best wishes,
