Should children from a former marriage be mentioned in second wedding engagement announcement?

My ex-husband is getting married this summer. I am very happy for him that he has found someone else.

My concern is our daughter. The engagement picture and announcement was in the local paper a couple of weeks ago. She was very excited because she knew her name would be in the paper. She was not mentioned. People have responded to her that is not correct etiquette to mention children from a previous marriage.

When you are talking about a 2nd marriage for him and a third marriage for her I wouldn't think etiquette would be a big thing.

My question is should she have been listed?

Thank you for your time

Dear Happywoman,

It isn't that the child shouldn't be mentioned because she is from a previous marriage, because that wouldn't be right. She is his daughter. But, including a child is optional. They typically aren't mentioned. Parents may be and often are.

Best wishes,
