Who pays for rehearsal dinner for second wedding?

This is a second wedding for dad (50) and girlfriend (43). Is his mother responsible for paying for the rehearsal dinner? (His family is otherwise not involved, other than being invited.....a decision made by bride, bride's mother, and/or groom.)

Traditionally, the groom's parent's were responsible for hosting the rehearsal dinner. However, these days even for first weddings, couples are usually paying for their own weddings. If parents do contribute, it's considered a generous gift. This is even more true for second weddings since we assume that these couples are already self-sufficient. The groom's parent's should no longer be obligated or responsible for anything a 40+ year old son does. If they want to offer, that is their perogative.

Please search the former posts since we have touched ion this topic over and over before.
