older children asked to be in their fathers wedding
My daughter who is 17 and son who is 13 have been asked to be in their fathers wedding.
This is his 2nd marriage, and will be the first marriage for the woman he is marrying. Father is on disability, but received a large sum of money from our divorce settlement.
He asked my daughter (17) to be a bridesmaid, but is expecting her to pay for her dress. She works 8-10 hrs/week during the school year and a little more during the summer. Her money goes towards her expenses (gas, entertainment and some of her clothing). Who should pay for her dress? Should she be expected to contribute anything? The bride is thinking about having hair, make-up, manicure and pedicure done at a salon.. who pays for this? She is fine with being in the wedding but upset about having to pay for above items.
My son has been asked to be the best man. He is 13. Who should be paying for the tux rental?
Should the children be purchasing a wedding gift?
Thanks for the advise!

Dear Kskathys,
Usually the attendant pays for her attire and makeup. Often if the bride insists on professional makeup and all you mentioned and the attendants can't pay for the extras, the bride will pay for it. This is usually discussed at the beginning of the planning process. But, it is usually the responsibility of the attendant. However, the parents usually pay child attendant's costs. So, her dad should pay for the costs of both children's attire and extras.
They would both be expected to give a gift to the couple.
