I was looking at a black bridesmaid dress: black satin with white sequence flowers on the top and down the back of the dress. I loved it, but now I am getting lots of negative comments about black and white weddings, and it's making me nerves about this choice. Someone said all of my pictures will just look drab. Another person said that people think black is classy, but she felt not for a wedding. Now, I don’t know if I should change the color or just add an accent like red. I don’t want to make a wrong decision and then have the wedding not look beautiful.

You nailed it yourself. Go with the dress you've fallen in love with and add your color in the flowers. Black is very formal, so if you are happy with your choice, don't let others influence your decision. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com

It sounds beautiful to me. Don't worry about other people. As for making wedding pictures look drab, the black and white should put out some gorgeous black and white photos. I almost chose those colors for my wedding, but when you find the right dress, you gotta go with what makes you happy. You seem to have done that! Next time you get the comment, make sure you treat yourself someplace for making the right decision already. Don't forget it's YOUR day. BRIDE

Black is a very elegant choice, and I'm sure your bridesmaids appreciate it. Black makes everyone look great too, so don't worry, your pictures will look great. Lori of ModelBride.com http://www.modelbride.com

I've had MANY brides choose black for their bridesmaids attire, so you're not alone.
Some people may find it a little 'odd' to have your bridesmaids wear black on your wedding, but it IS an elegant and sophisticated color.
Don't forget, it is your wedding and I'm sure it'll turn out just great. Liz C. of BridalSassique.com http://www.bridalsassique.com

Re: [bridalsassique] Black Bridesmaid Dresses

I was at a black and white wedding 2 years ago, and I think what made it fabulous was that they used silver accents in the decor (candle holders, picture frames, etc). It really spruced up the black and white, and candlelight makes it sparkle. Try using some nice greenery in the bouquets like variagated leaves. It really makes the white pop. Your dresses sound fabulous. Go with your gut, don't let other people change your mind.
PS. My bridesmaids are wearing black too! Fellow Bride
