My wedding is in 11 mo. My bridal party consists of my matron of honor, a bridesmaid, 2 jr. bridemaids, and a flower girl. My matron of honor is a size 22 and my bridesmaid is a size 9. The others are children and easy to work with. I'd love to get identical dresses for all involved, but nothing found to date is flattering for everyone. Should I abort mission and simply choose a color and allow everyone choose what best works for them? They're footing the bill, but it IS my big day. My matron of honor is my only sister who is insisting on doing something over the top -- feathers & fur -- not what I had in mind. She's ticked & I'm hurt. How can I solve this problem?
Try selecting a color or pattern and use that fabric as the base for your attendants dresses. Allowing them each to select their own may not be a good idea since, as you mentioned, they may have a different idea of what's appropriate. But, a good alternative is to select a few styles for each body type and allow them each to try on and select the best style for them. This allows them to feel like you are considering their taste and body images while you keep control over the styles. If you need help selecting the best choices - take a photo of each of the ladies to a bridal salon and ask a sales person to help you preselect the choices based on your fabric selection. I am using Thread Design for my bridesmaids, as I had a similar problem. They have a few styles where I was able to select a color and fabric, but then I selected 5 styles for my bridesmaids to chose from. This gave them the option to select what they loved most, but will still look the same for pictures.
