Bridesmaids dresses in same color different fabric
My wedding is a formal New Years Eve Affair. I want my bridesmaids to have freedom of choice and to shop for their own dress. They all have different body types and some could be better in long or short. I thought Black in color would be appropriate for New Years Eve. It will be a Church Ceremony. The reception is a cocktail, station style reception. I am getting flack from my maid of honor because I will not chose a particular line from a bridal store. Is it that wrong to have each in a very elegant and classy choice of their own? And how do I tell the maid of honor this is my wedding, not hers.

You're right, this is your wedding, but you've asked this woman to stand up for you, help you plan and spend money to do so. While it is very generous of you to allow these ladies to select their own dress, remember that this bridesmaid, whom we assume is someone you care for since you've asked her to be the maid of honor, must buy and wear this dress. She may be concerned that she might select something that you won't like. I'll bet she'd just like a bit of guidance so she doesn't have to return. I usually suggest selecting several styles from which the bridesmaids can select. That way you're sure to like whatever dress they pick and the bridesmaid doesn't have to worry about whether it's appropriate. be sure to select a variety of styles to suit a variery of figures and this should ease the pain.
