My friend was due to be married next Saturday. The wedding was called off last night. The other four bridesmaids and I are wondering what to do about these god awful coral colored bridesmaid dresses we all paid for ourselves that we are never going to wear. Is there a proper etiquette for addressing this situation when the wedding was cancelled because of infidelity on the bride's (my friend) part. What do we do? Is this just money, a nice chunk, down the drain? Do we ask the bride to repay us since, after all, she is the reason the wedding isn't occurring? What do we do?

Re: [Mollynn] Cancelled Wedding and Bridesmaid Dresses

I understand that this might seem like a lot of money to you right now but try to focus on the fact that your friend is probably devastated by her breakup rather than the fact that you are going to be out a bit of cash. Or...maybe you could focus on the money you will save NOT buying them a wedding gift.
I suppose you could ask the bride to pay for the dresses IF you want to compound her misery and maybe lose a friend. Seems to me the value of a friendship would outweigh any amount of money you've paid for a dress.
To try to recoup your loss try to sell the dress on Ebay (very easy to do), donate to a local charity or bring it to a consignment shop. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
