I'd like to do a more informal daytime wedding that is partially outdoors in early Fall (but in a warm climate). It would be great if my three bridesmaids can use a black knee-length dress they may already have, or could buy and wear again. Would it be alright for them to wear a cocktail dress, but wear black sandals rather than heels and/or keep their hair down to make it seem less dressy?
I imagine my guests wearing something along the lines of dressy casual, and I plan to wear a tea-length wedding dress. The groomsmen will be wearing black pants, white long-sleeve shirts, and matching ties to my groom, who will probably wear a suit (more as a compromise because he really wants to wear a tux!).
Any suggestions to dress down a little black dress?

Re: [tortoisegirl] Dressing down the little black dress

Dear tortoisegirl,
This sounds fine to me and suits the formality of your event. Strappy sandals would be perfect, but really should include a bit of a heel.
The fabric of the little black dress makes the statement of how formal the dress is. So, to keep it less formal, your attendants could keep this in mind when choosing their dresses.
