     MOH Suit Color

My wedding dress is an Ivory Suit of linen material. It has a lace shell. I wanted my MOH to wear a black suit as the Groom and Best Man are wearing Black Suits with Ivory Shirts. First, we have had some women tell us that the MOH is supposed to wear the same color as the bride. Is this so? Second, what can I do to her black suit to make her fit into the equation? We tried an Ivory shell but it made her look to frumpy. (She and I are both in our late 50's and do not have our youthful figures.) She is only 5'4" and the suits skirts are tea length. Is the length of the suit too long? She really prefers the longer skirts. We are older women and aren't really trying to impress anyone but I do want her to feel comfortable in her suit and not let the words of the other women make her feel she isn't dressed properly. The wedding is at 4:00 p.m. Thank you so much in advance for your advice.

First, I'll assume you've been a guest at a few weddings being you are over 50. Have you ever seen a bridesmaid or any attendant wearing the same color as the bride? Most brides wear white or ivory so this "rule" that these women repeat doesn't make sense. So, you can ignore this advice from them.

There are many colors your attendant can select and many choices. Since she is your only attendant the two of you have an advantage that you don't have to try to coordinate or find colors and styles to suit many different women. Allow her to select a color that suits her skin tone and work with that color. Most colors will work with your palette (but avoid red since that will take the focus off the bride).

If she wants to wear tea length and you like the suit, then it is fine.
