Should the bridesmaides' dresses match the bride's dress, as far as design, or not? For instance, I have a strapless wedding gown and I didn't know if the bridesmaides' should match that style or steer away from it or it doesn't matter?

No, the bridesmaids' dresses should not match the bride's gown. The reason being is because the bride is supposed to stand out. She is the one getting married. She can't stand out if she and her bridesmaids are dressed similarly.
