Should bridesmaid's shoes match bride's shoes?

Should the bridesmaid's shoes match or be the same style as the bride's shoes? The bride and I were discussing strappy sandals vs my idea of a peep toe pump or sling back. I am happy to go with a strappy sandal however I feel that the peep toe would be more formal and still remain youthful. I am in my late 40's and my young bride friend in her late 20's.

Hello,

Its hard to say with so many factors involved. Are your dresses the same color (white?) If so, I would say the bride should look different from her bridesmaids and guests.

I think age doesn't play a factor as much as comfort does. Can you dance and walk all night without being in pain?

I can not recall the shoes from any bride that I have seen, most dresses were long and covered the shoes. If her gown is short, then I would get more particular about the style, and if it looks different from anyone elses shoes.

The bridesmaids can go with coordinating shoes, but I think even this is getting too formal and dated. No one really does the matchy matchy thing anymore, especially if they are looking to show their individuality. Most bridesmaids only have the option to show their own style, is to do a different style shoe, in a coordinating color.

Good luck and Enjoy the party!
