     Spring Afternoon Bridesmaids Attire

I'm planning on having an afternoon wedding in the late spring/early summer. I want the wedding to be elegant but not too formal. I'm wearing a diamond white, strapless, a-line, satin, floor length dress with some subtle beading. I found some beautiful spring dresses that I'm considering using for the bridesmaids. They are green, muted teal, and off white, knee-length dresses with a subtle paisley design. I love the colors and the style will definitely flatter all the girls, but I wonder if they are too informal compared to my dress. I don't want the appearance of a backyard wedding, but I'm hoping with the colors and subtlety of the pattern that it won't look too informal. Any advice as to whether or not I should go with these dresses?

Dear Meg,

Without seeing the dresses it is difficult to know. If the material is informal, such as cotton, they may indeed seem informal. It really is the material and embellishments that set the tone. Your beading, the material, and the fact that it is strapless that makes this more formal.

Follow your instincts.

Best wishes,
