Not sure where to post this, but I'm having a hard time with wedding colors. Basically, I would like a maroon/dark red with silver accents because it seems to be easier and cheaper to find wedding attire, flowers, etc. accessories in shades of red--and I think a bouquet of red roses will be great with my white dress! However, my best friend just used these as her wedding colors, plus neither my mother nor my fiance are fond of the colors. They both prefer my second choice of baby blue with yellow accents (pretty, but much harder and more expensive to find flowers, dresses, decorations, etc. in these two colors, it seems).
So, my question is this: Would it look funny to do baby blue with dark red accents, so I could still have certain red flowers and decorations I want? To make things more complicated, my wedding is July 1, and I don't want to appear to have a "red, white, and blue" theme. Will it appear this way even with a dark red and a pastel blue?
Thanks for any advice!

I am not really sure why you feel the red and burgundy flowers would be easier to find or cheaper. That just really is not the case in my experience. In color terms most flowers are fairly uniform in price. Maybe you were basing your decision on what you saw in a certain season but really I think you can dismiss the cost variable if you dig a bit deeper.
I think the "red white and blue " warning signals are very valid. It just evokes the flag and there is nothing you can do to stop that...It is in all our subconscience.
If you want a bright all rose bouquet and to use blue dresses how about looking into deep hot pink. It is a similar elegant look but enough off the red to avoid a patriotic twist. Your girls could carry light blue hydrangeas or something with yellow daisies or spray roses and a tiny hint of warm to hot pink...very pretty.
If you still think the dark red is how you want to go then perhaps add a little warm gold or butter accents in the flowers to freshen things up. Purple and lime green would also work nicely. I would just stay away from blue of any kind.
I like the hot pink yellow and blue idea for July myself. Red seems a bit more fall to winter for my taste. It is however your taste that will call the day! Have fun deciding and a beautiful wedding. Take care! Sue of Hobart's Fine Florals http://www.hobartsfineflorals.com
