bridesmaid's dress for cruise ship wedding

My sister will be getting married on a cruise ship before it takes off, from NJ..on oct 31st. She wanted no bridesmaids but my mom said I have to be maid of honor.

My question - what would be appropriate for a 12 pm wedding? I have an elegant plain knee length strapless dress I would like to wear, but have been told I have to cover my shoulders...

any help is greatly appreciated!!

Have you checked with your sister on this? Your mom may like you to be the maid of honor but speak to your sister to see what she wants first. Then, discuss the formality of the wedding with her and, of course, her attire expectations.

My sister is fine with this - but when I ask her what she would like me to wear her answer is "whatever you want". That is why I am asking if there is any "etiquette rules" for a 12PM wedding.

thanks! :)

If you choose to wear this dress, it is best to cover your shoulders. The appropriate clothing would be a dress that you would feel comfortable wearing to a nice restaurant in a conservative setting--no excess flesh.
