I am geting married next winter and my thought is that my bridesmaids would wear a black tea length dress, one that they would actually want to wear again so they do not feel like they are throwing their money away. because none of my bridesmaids would wear a long satin dress again. I was thinking choosing a style from a major retailer so that the bridesmaids could find them in their normal dress size in whatever state they are in. However, my wedding is formal and the MOB thinks it may not be appropraite for winter and it wont match the groomsmen who are in tux's. I just want to accomodate my bridesmaids, does anyone think a tea length dress would look informal next to tux's?

A tux is formal evening wear. So, if your wedding is held during the day, the men would be wearing a morning suit. That may help with the formality level, even though this is formal daytime wear. It just doesn't appear as formal. But, one way to make these dresses a bit more formal looking is to step up their jewelry, make-up, and hair. Tea length could help as well. But, it is very nice that you are trying to give them the option of purchasing a dress they would want to wear again.
