Age appropriate for a Ring Bearer?

I have a friend with a dear 4 year old son who will be the ringbearer for a wedding. The bride, of course, is picking out the outfit (as she should) but she has picked out an outfit that seems way to young for a 4 year old. Is it acceptable for a 4 year old to still be wearing lime green & whitelinen shorts, linen shirt, white socks and saddle shoes? What is the proper etiquette for a 4yo? My friend and her son are not fond of the outfit at all FTR it's a formal wedding.

Dear Steohe3,

This is very traditional. And yes, this is fine for those under that age of 5. Some say 7.

But, unless the wedding will be in the heat of summer, the outfit should also have a jacket.

Best wishes,
