Who should choose and purchase the flower girl's dress
My husband's sister is getting married. My husband and I are in the wedding and our daughter, who just turned 2, will be the flower girl. The bride and her mother went and bought the flower girl dress, so I could have no say, without even checking with us about about sizes or styles for her. It's very Halloween looking, with Black tree branches all over and sleeveless. Looks very inappropriate for a little one who just turned 2. Is there a way for us to buy something that coordinates with the wedding without looking so harsh or was this an appropriate action by the bride? Can I purchase a dress for her to change into at the reception and also get some family photos with? Please help!

Dear Flowergirl,
Usually, you would be given an idea of the dress the bride wishes and you would purchase the dress--it would be the bride's choice. So, it was nice for them to purchase the dress for you.
If you feel that it is inappropriate for a young child, then you could choose a different dress for later in the reception. But, if you just don't care for it, then it is best to look away. We rarely have the same tastes as others.
It would be in very poor taste to change her dress before the wedding photos. These should be exactly what the bride wishes.

Any chance the dress is the wrong size or is so itchy that it is causing the baby a rash?
Have you tried speaking gently with the bride? It was very generous of her to buy the dress but, if it can be returned or exchanged, maybe she would agree. Perhaps if she saw your baby in the dress she might get the idea that it's not appropriate. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
